Quick Encoder Rundown

Here is a quick comparison between the encoders:

Product Scrolling Smoothness Scrolling Force (Sense of definition) Lifespan (Circles)
Kailh ★★★★★ ★★★ 100K+
TTC Red ★★★★ ★★ 100K+
TTC Green ★★★ ★★★ 100K+
TTC Gold ★★★ ★★★★ 1,000K+
ALPS Japan ★★ ★★★★★ 100K+

Scrolling smoothness

Kailh (smoothest) > TTC Red/Green > TTC Gold > Japanese ALPS (most defined)

Force required for scrolling

Japanese ALPS (heaviest) > TTC Office > TTC Gold > Kailh (lightest)

If you prefer a heavier scroll with well-defined steps, we recommend the Japanese ALPS or the TTC Gold.

For the lightest and smoothest scroll, we recommend a Kailh red encoder.

For something in between the two, not too heavy and not too light, we would recommend the TTC Gold.

Encoder Compatibility

In order to replace an encoder, it needs to be a mechanical encoder, not an optical one. If you aren’t sure, you can find a list of encoder heights and mice with optical encoders below.

Once you are certain you have a mechanical encoder, you need to measure the mounting height of the encoder, which will determine whether the encoders are compatible with your device.

Measuring your Encoder Height

To measure the height of your scroll wheel encoder, you need to take a measurement (in mm) from the base of the mounting plate to the center of the encoder wheel holder.

Some encoders will have a small number engraved somewhere on the front plate. For example, an engraved “9” means that the encoder mounting height is 9mm.

The Genius NS 6005 mouse uses a TENGA 11-S encoder that I assume has a height of 11 mm, but I don’t know the meaning of the S. Please, could you tell me which model of your encoders is the most suitable to be able to replace it? Thank you so much.

      Hi Fernando,
We’re not familiar with this brand so we’re not sure about the encoder. It seems it should be a custom version of 11mm high encoder. Perhaps you can contact the seller for more info.

Hi there, unfortuantely we are not familiar with that mouse, you can measure the height of the encoder yourself according to the instruction in this article.
